South Africa need to chase down 202 in 28 overs to avoid a series loss.  LIVE SCORECARD

11 February 2018, 01:37 AM

South Africa take the contest by five wickets via the D/L method. They chase down 202 in just 25.3 overs. Klaasen (43 off 27 balls) and Phehlukwayo (23 off 5 balls) take the side home with 15 balls remaining. The South African win means the six-game rubber is still alive as the hosts now trail 1-3. We will be back on Tuesday with updates from the fifth game at Port Elizabeth. Till then, goodbye.

11 February 2018, 01:26 AM

Yuzvendra Chahal removes David Miller for 39 but it has come a little late in the day. South Africa 176/5 in 24 overs. Target 202 in 28 overs.

11 February 2018, 01:10 AM

Both Miller and Klaasen are turning it around for South Africa with big shots. As of now, they are favourites to take this contest. And the Indians have got only themselves to blame. Remember, Miller has been dropped and then bowled off a no-ball. South Africa 160/4 in 22 overs. Target 202 in 28 overs.

11 February 2018, 00:55 AM

David Miller has been dropped and bowled off a no-ball and now he is in a punishing mood. Picks up three straight fours off Hardik Pandya to keep his side alive in this game. South Africa 121/4 in 19 overs. Target 202 in 28 overs.

11 February 2018, 00:47 AM

Big wicket for India. Hardik Pandya removes AB de Villiers for 26. He tries to clear Rohit Sharma at deep fine leg but fails. The Indian camp is ecstatic. South Africa 102/4 in 16.5 overs. Target: 202 in 28 overs.

11 February 2018, 00:38 AM

The only person who could now do it for South Africa is AB de Villiers and he has just hit Yuzvendra Chahal for a six in the long-on region. He follows with another in the same direction. India need to get him out as soon as possible. South Africa 100/3 in 16 overs. Target 202 in 28 overs.

11 February 2018, 00:31 AM

Another wicket by Kuldeep Yadav. Hashim Amla hits in the direction of long-off and Bhuvneshwar Kumar takes a nice catch on the boundary. He jumps and takes the catch and throws it back in the air fearing he might touch the rope. He gets back in time to complete the catch. South Africa 77/3 in 14.1 overs. Target 202 in 28 overs.

11 February 2018, 00:21 AM

Kuldeep Yadav strikes for India, traps JP Duminy in front of the wickets for 10. He wants to review it but the Proteas don't have it anymore. Anyway, replays show he is plumb in front. South Africa 67/2 in 12.2 overs. Target 202 in 28 overs.

11 February 2018, 00:09 AM

South Africa 53/1 in 10 overs. The asking rate is now well over 8 which means one of these two batsmen, Hashim Amla (24) or JP Duminy (4), will have to up the ante. The outfield is a little slow because of the rain and the Indians will definitely be benefiting from it.

11 February 2018, 00:01 AM

The proceedings re-start at Johannesburg. Jasprit Bumrah is going to finish his over. And he does it conceding just one run off his remaining four deliveries. South Africa 44/1 in 8 overs. Target: 202 in 28 overs.

10 February 2018, 23:57 PM

It confirmed it's a 28-overs 202-run chase, with a restart scheduled at 12 am IST. The Proteas (43/1 in 7.2 overs) now need another 159 runs off 124 balls to keep themselves alive in this six-game rubber.

10 February 2018, 23:48 PM

The action hasn't resumed yet. There is still some work to be done on the outfield. Murmurs are it's going to be a 28-overs chase for the home team. The D/L method is rearing its head, no doubt about that. Reports say the match should resume around 12 am IST. Stay tuned.

10 February 2018, 23:22 PM

There will be another inspection at 11.40 pm IST. There are some issues with the outfield and the ground staff is working very hard to fix these issues. Let's hope we have play sooner rather than later.

10 February 2018, 23:11 PM

The rain has stopped and the covers are coming off. We are not very far from the resumption of play. It will be interesting to see how many overs have been cut, if any.

10 February 2018, 22:40 PM

According to reports, the rain has gained in strength. It is assumed that whenever play resumes, overs deduction will take place. Remember, this is the second time the game has been interrupted and this one seems serious from the previous one.

10 February 2018, 22:21 PM

Bumrah traps Aiden Markram in front of the wickets for 22 and the hosts review in vain. As the Indian players celebrate, the umpires decide to stop play on account of lightning. Remember, a thunderstorm has been forecasted for today's game and this is the second time the game has been interrupted. Hopefully, the action will resume without taking much time. South Africa 43/1 in 7.2 overs in pursuit of 290. The covers have also come on owing to a light drizzle.

10 February 2018, 22:03 PM

Hashim Amla shuffles towards his off stump every time he is playing Jasprit Bumrah in an attempt to cut the angle a little. He has done it in the previous matches too with mixed results. So far the Indian pacers haven't been able to make much of an impression. Kohli will soon have to bring on the spinners. Remember, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep had been nearly unplayable in the previous matches. South Africa 31/0 in five overs, in pursuit of 290.

10 February 2018, 22:00 PM

Three overs are gone and nothing has bothered South African openers Aiden Markram and Hashim Amla. Good start by all means. They need a solid opening stand to challenge India's total. The hosts are 19/0 after 3 overs in pursuit of 290.

10 February 2018, 21:52 PM

South Africa begin their chase and stand-in captain Aiden Markram gets an elegant drive for four off the penultimate ball of the first over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. South Africa 6/0 in 1 over. Target: 290

10 February 2018, 21:18 PM

India at last finish on 289/7 and for that they have MS Dhoni plenty to thank. After the resumption of play following a lengthy lightning break, the Indian batting sort of fell apart and Dhoni's 42* off 43 balls made sure all wheels didn't come off for the tourists. He played all six balls from the last over by Chris Morris and took 12 runs from it. Be that as it may, India are at least 25-35 run short. When Dhawan (109) and Kohli (75) were batting they were looking at something around 325. The South Africans bowlers overall did a good job and used short deliveries to good effect all through the innings. Now the ball is in the South African batsmen's court. Another defeat will mean the series is lost.

10 February 2018, 20:57 PM

Aiden Markram takes a ripper to send Hardik Pandya back off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada. The previous short balls appear to have rattled Pandya who tries to hit over the covers and finds Markram instead. India 262/6 in 47 overs.

10 February 2018, 20:44 PM

Shreyas Iyer departs for 18 after that rescue from the DRS in the last over. Tries to hit Ngidi for a six but finds Chris Morris at long-on. Off the previous ball he had picked up a boundary. Hardik Pandya joins MS Dhoni at the crease. India 247/5 in 43.2 overs.

10 February 2018, 20:43 PM

The DRS saves Shreyas Iyer. The umpire gives him caught behind off Andile Phehlukwayo. He straight away reviews it and replays show he hasn't nicked the ball. Indian 243/4 in 43 overs.

10 February 2018, 20:33 PM

The South African pacers have been bowling short and Dhoni & Iyer don't look much comfortable against them. The good thing is both have managed to stay there without any damage. India 240/4 in 42 overs. The tourists should at least eye 300 from here.

10 February 2018, 20:16 PM

Dhoni has his heart in his mouth as the ball sails over a jumping Andile Phehlukwayo in the sweeper cover area. Luckily for Dhoni, the ball just sails over the South African's head. India 222 for 4 in 38 overs. The tourists have already lost two quick wickets and it's important Dhoni and Iyer now forge a decent partnership.

10 February 2018, 20:12 PM

Now it's Ajinkya Rahane who walks back to the dressing room. Pulls Lungi Ndigi nicely but finds Kagiso Rabada at deep square leg. He goes for 8. First ODI wicket for Ngidi. India 210/4 in 36.3 overs. MS Dhoni joins Shreyas Iyer.

10 February 2018, 20:05 PM

Play has resumed and shortly after Shikhar Dhawan goes. Morne Morkel removes him for 109 (105 balls). Tries to hit over mid-off but instead finds AB de Villiers. The lightning break seems to have done the job for South Africa. India 206/3 in 35.3 overs.

10 February 2018, 19:57 PM

The latest update is here. The match will resume in a short while as the conditions have improved to some extent. As of now, no overs deduction has been announced.

10 February 2018, 19:52 PM

The situation hasn't improved in Johannesburg. It's been a while since the lightning interruption. Overs deduction is now pretty much on the cards.

10 February 2018, 19:09 PM

Lightning stops play at Johannesburg. A thunderstorm is brewing in the distance as forecasted. India 200/2 in 34.2 overs. Dhawan 107*, Rahane 5*.

10 February 2018, 19:01 PM

Here comes the 13th ODI century for Shikhar Dhawan. What an occasion to get a ton. Remember, it's his 100th game. Hits Chris Morris for a four off the first ball of the over to reach the feat. Great show by Dhawan. India 191/2 in 33.1 overs. Interesting stats here.

10 February 2018, 18:54 PM

For a second time in this match, Shikhar Dhawan has got a six off a flick off his pads. Kagiso Rabada looks dejected. India 187/2 in 33 overs. Dhawan 99*, Rahane 1*.

10 February 2018, 18:49 PM

The unthinkable has happened for South Africa. They have just removed Virat Kohli for 75, as the Indian captain tries to hit over the in-field on the offside. David Miller takes a simple catch at cover off the bowling of Chris Morris. Big relief in the South African camp. A 158-run stand comes to an end. India 178/2 in 31.1 overs.

10 February 2018, 18:34 PM

150-run partnership between Dhawan and Kohli. Things looking really bleak for the hosts. India in complete command at 170/1 in 29 overs. Dhawan 88*, Kohli 70*.

10 February 2018, 18:16 PM

The runs are coming and thick and fast for the Indian team. The South Africans need to break this partnership if they aspire to pull one back today. At this rate, India will have a big total on the board. India 145/1 in 24 overs. Dhawan 76*, Kohli 58*.

10 February 2018, 18:08 PM

Kohli's fifty also comes up as he hits Morne Morkel over mid-off for a four. Incredible form. A difficult opportunity for Morkel off the next ball and he does his damndest but fails to reach the ball. At first it appears he has hurt himself but to everyone's relief he gets up and finishes the over without any trouble. India 128/1 in 22 overs

10 February 2018, 17:55 PM

26th fifty for Shikar Dhawan with a single of Andile Phehlukwayo. Back-to-back fifties for the Indian left-hander. And then off the last ball of the over he flicks to great effect for a six. India 105/1 in 19 overs. Dhawan 58*, Kohli 36*.

10 February 2018, 17:46 PM

Shot of the match so far. Virat Kohli picks up Lungi Ngidi early and hits him straight back for a huge six. Pure timing on display from the Indian captain. India 90/1 in 17 overs. Dhawan 45*, Kohli 34*.

10 February 2018, 17:29 PM

50 up between Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. Kohli takes a boundary off the second ball of the Lungi Ngidi over. Three singles and a triple follow. India 78/1 in 15 overs.

After a little barren patch, Shikhar Dhawan picks up two boundaries off the Chris Morris over to bring India back in control. India 68/1 in 14 overs.

10 February 2018, 17:19 PM

A thunderstorm has been forecasted for today's game. As of now, the conditions look great. India 56/1 in 12 overs. Dhawan 30*, Kohli 16*. Ajinkya Rahane is all padded up but don't think he will prefer batting so early in this innings.

10 February 2018, 17:07 PM

Shikhar Dhawan, meanwhile, seems to have picked up where he had left off in Cape Town. He has reached 28 with minimal effort. India 50/1 in 9 overs.

10 February 2018, 16:57 PM

South Africa's nemesis Virat Kohli has joined Shikhar Dhawan at the crease. Rabada tests him with a short ball but a thick edge goes over the slip region for four. Then to make matters worse for the hosts, he flicks off his pads to get another boundary. Two more to Kohli off the last ball. India 46/1 in 8 overs.

10 February 2018, 16:52 PM

First wicket for India goes down. Rohit Sharma is removed caught and bowled by Kagiso Rabada for 5. India 20/1 in 4 overs. Rohit's horror show in South Africa continues.

10 February 2018, 16:43 PM

Now Shikhar Dhawan gets in on the act. Drives Morne Morkel straight back to fetch India their second boundary. India 13/0 after 3 overs.

10 February 2018, 16:38 PM

First boundary comes for India and it's from the bat of Rohit Sharma who drives Kagio Rabada through the covers to great effect. India 7/0 after two overs.

10 February 2018, 16:31 PM

Morne Morkel starts the proceedings for South Africa. The South Africans are in pink gear today. In fact, the colour pink has suffused the entire venue. India 2/0 after the first over of the match.

10 February 2018, 16:17 PM

Important day for Shikar Dhawan as well. It's his 100th ODI. He has indeed come a long way since making his ODI debut in 2010 against Australia at Visakhapatnam.

10 February 2018, 16:15 PM

Remember, it's a pink ODI and South Africa have won all the previous four such games. With AB de Villiers back in the team, they will definitely back themselves to pull one back today.

10 February 2018, 16:09 PM

The Proteas XI. They have made two changes. Khaya Zondo goes out in favour of AB de Villiers and Morne Morkel returns in place of Imran Tahir.

10 February 2018, 16:07 PM

Here is the Indian playing XI.
