Defending 195, the Lions needed early wickets. In the second over, they got the wickets of Sanju Samson and Pant. Samson was bowled by Pradeep Sangwan, thanks to a play-on; but Pants's wicket displayed the skipper's brilliant presence of mind.

Pant was caught up in a LBW confusion off the fifth delivery in the second over, and in a moment of brain-fade, he forgot to plank his bat inside the crease even as Raina, fielding at slip, hit the wickets with a direct throw.

In the first leg of the fixture, the 19-year-old played a brilliant knock of 97 runs to help Delhi chase down Gujarat's 208 with ease.
