New Delhi: The Green Park Stadium in Kanpur witnessed huge drama after umpire Anil Chaudhary committed a blunder during the Gujarat Lions-Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL match on Saturday.
Chasing a 154-run target set by the Lions, defending champions from Hyderabad lost two wickets in one Praveen Kumar early in the innings. Then skipper David Warner and Vijay Shankar steadied the innings with some sensible batting, to chase down the target.
But, it could have gone all wrong for Hyderabad had umpire Chaudhary given a right verdict against Warner, who was caught behind off the bowling off Ankit Soni in the 10th over.
Warner opted not to walk, and a huge drama ensued in Kanpur with the Lions wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik leading the chorus. A visibly angry Lions captain Suresh Raina was also seen in the action, even as veteran pacer Munaf Patel approached Warner for a friendly word.

It is more than likely Anil Chaudhary tops the list for howlers from Indian umpires across formats over the last two years.

As it turned out, Warner remained not out on 69 off 52 balls to help the visitors to a thumping eight-wicket win. The win ensured that the defending champions are through to the play-offs.
