IPL 2017, Match 5: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Delhi Daredevils — As it happened...

MAN OF THE MATCH- Kedar Jadhav (69 runs off 37 balls)

YES BANK MAXIMUM- Kedar Jadhav (5sixes)

VIVO CATCH OF THE MATCH - Sanju Samson

Summary- Close and yet so far for Delhi Daredevils, who started off things really good. They lost the toss and were put to bowl first. With three pacers in their team, they really got their worked done. Excellent display with the ball, especially with Zaheer going in with all his experience. Despite Kedar Jadhav's big hits Delhi ceased the RCB team to a minimal 157 total.

But with the bat, they were completely dismal. RCB returned back strong, one by one removing each of their batsmen. Pant fought hard to save the wickets falling around him, but in the end, went down fighting and with that it saw the end of Delhi. A much needed two points grabbed but the injury stricken Bengaluru team.

RCB win by 15 runs

DELHI DAREDEVILS INNINGS; TARGET 158

Over 20 | Score 142/9 | Mishra 8 (13) ; Zaheer 1 (1)

Last over and a somehow impossible 19 needed. Pant on strike. Negi into the attack. First ball, turns it around leg stump. Pant makes room to slog it back but fails and the ball strikes down the leg stump. Beautifully played by the young man. A big applause for him indeed.

RR Pant b Negi 57 (36b)

Nadeem is the new batsman. In question about the first ball he faces. Goes to third umpire for decision. Not Out! Four balls to go. Nadeem strikes it high in the air and Negi runs to take it. Two wickets in three balls and RCB just two balls away from victory.

S Nadeem c & b Negi 0 (2b)

And finally its a win for Bengaluru. Fielded well, bowled well and they got that two points.

Over 19 | Score 139/7 | Mishra 6 (11) ; Pant 57 (35)

The equation stands- 21 from 12 balls. Pant hits it hard but fails to be back at strike. Trouble for DD. 19 more needed off 8 balls. Mishra is swinging his bat with the hope to somehow touch the ball and rotate strike. But failing in each attempt.

Over 18 | Score 137/7 | Mishra 5 (7) ; Pant 56 (34)

32 off 18 deliveries now. It is looking that things have ended for DD. Mills into the attack. Short and hovers oit over to the third man region but fails to get boundary- two off it. Mishra takes a single to get Pant on strike. Takes a single to get a half-century. Excellent innings from the young lad. Slow ball and a bouncer. Mishra perplexed. He was actually waiting for the ball to come. Pant punches a six off the last ball. Over fine leg boundary.

Over 17 | Score 126/7 | Mishra 1 (3) ; Pant 49 (32)

Brathwaite is the new batsman. Things are certainly looking difficult for DD now. Only hope is Pant. Only he can turn things around for the Daredevils. Chahal into the attack. Wide and Pant smacks it down to him. Low in height and catchable but the speed misses his hand. Loud appeal but umpire denies. Chahal disappointed. And so is the crowd. But Chahal finally gets Brathwaite. Bowled him out, between the pad and bat.

Over 1 | Score 10/0 | Gayle 1 (1) ; Watson 9 (5)

RCB opening the attack in their home ground. Crucial for them to get those two points today. Injury is still hitting their team hard. But they have to make up to the situation with the existing players.

Delhi Daredevils on the other hand, making their way for the first match this season. But one drwaback, who will hit those boundaries? They lack some hard-hitting batsman. DD is full of bowlers. Hope they can compensate for those two absentees- Duminy, Kock.

Gayle and Watson are out on the field. Two overseas batsman from RCB. Skipper Zaheer will be taking up the ball. Zaheer to Gayle. Full toss delivery and Gayle gets a single. Watson goes for a boundary. Punches it down midwicket. And another comes up down cover. One off side stroke another leg side, Watson starting hard already.

Benny Dayal is there at the Chinnaswamy stadium to entertain the crowd with few of his Bollywood numbers. And now it is Kriti Sanon with a few sizzling performance.

RCB win the toss and elect to bat

New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore, a team with arguably the most formidable batting line-up, provided all their players are fit can take on a bowling heavy Delhi Daredevils squad at home.

But they are struggling to field a winning eleven. Skipper Virat Kohli out of action, Delhi can hope to contain the host in the fifth match of the 2017 Indian Premier League in Bengaluru.

But the visiting side too have their own worries. Having lost the South African duo of JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock before the start of the tournament, the Zaheer Khan-led side will need to do their best when up against the Challengers. (IPL 10 - Full Coverage)

Yes, they are without the experienced Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews, and Shreyas Iyer will also miss the initial stage having been suffering from chickenpox.

Rishabh Pant, meanwhile is available after his father's recent demise. Kagiso Rabada looks likely to make his IPL debut while Ben Hilfenhaus, signed on Friday as the replacement for Duminy, could be in line too.

As far as RCB are concerned, AB de Villiers still remain a doubt for the second match in a row. New signing, Vishnu Vinod is a specialist wicket-keeper which means Kedar Jadhav could be taken off wicket-keeping responsibilities.
