IPl 2017: Chris Gayle becomes first player to score 10000 T20 runs, RCB launch commemorative 10K note

New Delhi: The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Chris Gayle on Tuesday became the first player to breach the 10000-run mark in Twenty20 cricket, and the Indian Premier League (‬IPL) franchise 'launched' a new 10,000 note to commemorate the historic moment.

Opening the innings for RCB, the 37-year-old from Kingston, Jamaica took a single off the third ball in the fourth over, bowled by Basil Thampi, to reach the milestone. The big West Indian seemed unaware of the achievement and quietly carried on, hitting the next ball for a six over mid-off.

But his team wasn't to lose such a momentous moment, and 'released' a 10k currency through its official Twitter handle with the Universe Boss' photo prominently embossed on it.

Here's the tweet:

Gayle, thus, replicated the records created by Indian greats Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar.

In 1987, Gavaskar became the first player to score 10000 Test runs, and in 2001, Tendulkar breached the 10k mark in ODIs.

Besides RCB, the West Indian great also plays for Jamaica Tallawahs and other T20 franchises.

In the list of most T20 runs, Gayle is followed by Kiwi legend Brendon McCullum with 7524 runs, and Aussie Brad Hodge with 7338.
