Gujarat Lions star Brendon McCullum ruled out of remainder of IPL 2017 with hamstring injury

New Delhi: Gujarat Lions suffered a major blow in their hopes finishing the rest of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 season on a high after star overseas batsman Brendon McCullum was ruled of of remainder off the campaign with hamstring injury. (IPL 2017 - Full Coverage | Points Table)

The Kiwi legend broke the news on his Twitter account.

"Injuries are not ideal but part of our sport. Compressed tournament & long travel can be gruelling. Sorry for not being there all the way," McCullum tweeted.

Gujarat Lions official Twitter account also released a video featuring the Kiwi superstar thanking fans for their love and support.

“Unfortunately I’m going to be on the plane home tonight,” McCullum said in the video.

“I hurt my hamstring and that’s ruled me out for the next three to four weeks. “I’ve had a great time. Thanks to all the supporters of the Gujarat Lions and all of my teammates and coaching staff. “It’s been a pretty cool time over the last two years and I’m sure we’ll have some great friendships and relationships as we move forward.”

With McCullum out, GL are left with only four overseas players - Dwayne Smith, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch and Chirag Suri.

The Lions have been knocked out of IPL 2017 already, but are still supposed to play three more games this season. The franchise hasn't named a replacement for injured McCullum yet.
