New Delhi: Indian Premier Leauge season 10 hasn't brought the best of results for Gujarat Lions and indeed for England international batsman Jason Roy, who is contemplating whether to leave the competition and get some match time for Surrey at the Royal London Cup ahead of the Champions Trophy.

The opener hasn't cemented his place in the struggling Gujarat Lions squad and has openly admitted that he might not return for the remainder of the IPL 2017 after he heads for a short ODI series against Ireland in first week of May, which will rule him out of the team's clashes against Delhi Daredevils (May 4) and Kings XI Punjab (May 7). “I’m discussing with Andrew Strauss, whether to come back out here to the IPL or to get cracking with Surrey in the Royal London,” said Roy.

“I think it is probably a good idea to get my head round 50-over cricket as much as possible especially if I’m not really playing a huge amount out here in India, it is just a bit of a waste really.

“I’m due to come back for the Ireland game and then after that I could have three games for Surrey before the South Africa series so that would be great preparation I think,” he added.

He further rued the lack of playing time but said he is working hard to be ready for the English season.

“I’m in good form, but there is not much I can do about selection,” said Roy. “I’m training as hard as I can and I’m taking the positives out it by getting ready for the English season.

“I’m definitely making the most of it and doing things that will benefit me not just now but over the next couple of months with the Champions Trophy coming up.

“Of course it would be nice to get a couple more opportunities to show what I’m really about,” the right-handed batsman said.

Roy has so far made 3 appearances for Gujarat Lions, scoring 59 runs, with his highest being 31.
