New Delhi: Days after he witnessed David Warner's brutal assault at Hyderabad, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Gautam Gambhir revealed the ordeal he had to go through post that 48-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
In his column in Hindustan Times, Gambhir wrote that his team had indeed played the role of "courteous in-laws who was head over heels to please the Aussie son-in-law."
It certainly was an apt description, considering how the Warner demolished the KKR attack. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper went onto smacked 126 runs off just 59 balls in an innings which looked ridiculously easy. It had 10 fours and eight sixes.
"Kolkata Knight Riders bowling was not as bad as it was made to look by Hyderabad skipper David Warner. We didn’t tick the fielding box either. But what worried me was the ease with which Warner could play some audacious strokes. He cut us, pulled us, switch-hit-slog-swept us, drove us and hoisted us. It seemed KKR was one those courteous in-laws who was head over heels to please the Aussie son-in-law," Gambhir wrote.

But what made Gambhir's situation even more embarrassing was that fact that his daughter Aazeen, who was celebrating her birthday on Monday, a day after the Hyderabad match, sledged the two-time IPL winning captain, who also happened to be a winner of two World Cup trophies with the Indian team.
"TV papa picking nose, TV papa picking nose,” was the ‘sledge’ revealed Gambhir. "I didn’t realise why Aazeen was on my case till Natasha showed me the recording of our Hyderabad game," he explained about the avoidable part in that post-match presentation function.
Then, came the worst part.
After getting a taste of sledging from his own daughter, the 35-year-old batsman was treated with a hostile reminder how Warner destroyed his team only a day earlier.
And that reminder was a miniature willow, a carbon copy of the one used by the SRH captain – "Gray Nicolls cricket bat with Kaboom plastered at the back".
It was a gift given his daughter by Gambhir's brother-in-law.
Gambhir was at home on Monday to celebrate his daughter's birthday. He will lead KKR against visiting Rising Pune Supergiant at Eden Gardens today. Quite a role play from the skipper.
