Ahead of the second day of the fourth Test between Australia and India, a sad news arrived in form of Pat Cummins' mother's passing away. BCCI and Cricket Australia mourned the death of the Australian captain's mother who was unwell. BCCI tweeted: "On behalf of Indian Cricket, we express our sadness at the passing away of Pat Cummins mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family in this difficult period." When the second day of the Ahmedabad Test began, overnight batters Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green came out to bat wearing black armbands. Cricket Australia, via a tweet, had informed about the same that the players were going to wear black armbands as a mark of respect for Cummins' mother.

Coming to the match, Khawaja and Green ensured their partnership only grew stronger as Australia went back to lunch on Day 2 without losing any wicket in the morning session, creating more problems for Indians. Khawaja also reached 150 while Green was unbeaten on 95 when lunch was taken on the second day. Indian bowlers have continued to look unimpressive throughout the match. The likes of Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel have had no impact in the game as spin trio has failed to take wickets on track which looks good for batting. Mohammed Shami did show some bite in his bowling on opening day but it has gone missing on second day. At the same time, Umesh Yadav has been bowling all over the place, leaking runs and releasing pressure from Aussie batters.
