Ind vs Aus 2017: Virat Kohli on verge of breaking yet another record by 'guru' Sachin Tendulkar

New Delhi: Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli, who has been in the form of his life since the beginning of 2016, looks all set to create more history in the upcoming four-match series against Australia. Against Steve Smith and his men, Kohli is closing in on another record, owned by his idol Sachin Tendulkar.

The 28-year-old currently has 895 points under his belt in ICC Test rankings, just 38 short of top-ranked Smith.

While he has already left behind Rahul Dravid (892 points), he needs three more points to go past Tendulkar (898 points). Considering his purple form, leaving Tendulkar behind would ideally be a cakewalk for the Indian skipper.

Needless to say, no matter how many records he breaks, Kohli will always look up to Tendulkar as an inspiration, someone he takes vital inputs from to iron his flaws, on a regular basis.

By the end of the four-match series, if he keeps performing the way he has in the last few months in Tests, Kohli would have broken a plethora of records.

Cricket fraternity and sports writers are short of adjectives to describe Kohli's form in the last two years. The Delhi-born cricketer, who was recently appointed India's full-time limited-overs skipper, is proving to be a tough nut to crack for the best of bowlers.

Under Kohli's captaincy, India recently extended their unbeaten run in Tests to 19 matches. In the form of his life, the flamboyant right-hander also became the first batsman in the history of the game to notch up four consecutive double tons in Test matches. He also became the first Indian cricketer to guide the team to six successive series wins in the five-day format.

Former Australian great Ricky Ponting recently hailed Kohli as the finest batsman of his generation.

"Is he the best batsman in the world? Yeah, he probably is," Ponting said in an interview in Abu Dhabi.

I thought he was six or seven months ago and he's probably taken it to another level since then."

Australian bowlers will have to bowl their heart out against Kohli, if they entertain any chances of putting a good show against India. When Kohli last toured Australia, he won massive praise from the cricket congnoscenti by hammering four centuries in the series Down Under.
