Gurmehar-ABVP ruckus: Virender Sehwag represents BCCI not India, says Umar Khalid

New Delhi: Soon after Jave Akhtar extended support to Gurmehar Kaur and hit out at Virender Sehwag and Yogeshwar Dutt for trolling the Kargil martyr's daughter, JNU scholar Umar Khalid has slammed the former Indian cricketer in his Facebook post.

"Virender Sehwag played for BCCI, he does not represent India. The thousands of students and teachers who came out in Delhi University today, they represent India - a vision of a new India based on equality, justice and freedom," Khalid posted on Facebook.

Akhtar had taken a dig at Sehwag and Yogeshwar, calling them 'hardly literate'.

"If a hardly literate player or a wrestler troll a pacifist daughter of a martyr its understandable but whats wrong with some educated folks."

ABVP, which is also backed by the RSS, faced criticism over violence at Ramjas college last week, in which several students and teachers of the college were beaten.

Gurmehar became the centre of the controversy after launching a social media campaign against ABVP, and the matter further intensified after Virender Sehwag seemed to troll her with his 'placard tweet'.

In her latest tweet, Gurmehar said she is withdrawing form the campaign and request everyone to be left alone.

"I'm withdrawing from the campaign. Congratulations everyone. I request to be left alone. I said what I had to say. I have been through a lot and this is all my 20 year self could take. To anyone questioning my courage and bravery...

I've shown more than enough," she said.
