Australian allrounder Mitchell Marsh has expressed his uncertainty about continuing as the Test vice-captain having been appointed alongside fast bowler Josh Hazlewood in October, after being dropped from the XI for the first clash against India.
"I don't know where I stand in that sense," he said.
"Lucky we've got two vice captains," added Marsh.
The 27-year-old cricketer has failed to score a half-century in his last eleven Test innings which played a key role behind his exclusion from the XI as per reports. However, Marsh is looking to learn from this experience and improve as a cricketer.
"I was obviously very disappointed to miss out in the first Test but I understood the reasons why," Marsh told reporters.
"Ultimately, you've got two ways to go about it – you can either sulk and go into your shell or you can put a smile on your face and enjoy the hard work, enjoy the challenge of getting back into that Test side."
"Every Test match you miss out on - it's shattering. I got plenty of messages of support. I cop a fair bit but I do have a lot of people who care about me and always have support for me," he added.
Marsh is optimistic about playing a part in the upcoming second Test against India in the new Perth Stadium but more than happy to serve in the best manner possible if handed a spot on the bench.
“I was certainly pumped about (playing in Perth) and I still am. If the opportunity arises, it would be amazing, but if not I'm still going to be around the squad," said the 27-year-old.
"I'll be running drinks as hard as I can for the boys and getting around them and enjoying the Perth Stadium atmosphere," Marsh concluded.
