Four police personnel were killed in a gun-fight with Naxals in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

Raipur: Four police personnel, including two sub-inspectors, were killed in a gun-fight with Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Tuesday.

The encounter took place in the forests of Irpanar village in Abhujmad area when a police team was out on anti-Naxal operation, Special Director General of Police (anti- Naxal operations) DM Awasthi said.

"Two sub-inspectors and as many constables, belonging to DRG (District Reserve Guard of Police) lost their lives and seven other personnel sustained injuries in the incident," he told PTI.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Vivekanand Sinha said the encounter started around 11 am and lasted for about two hours. 

Earlier, on January 6, 2018, Naxals had stormed bauxite mines of Hindalco on the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border and had set ablaze six vehicles and had blown up two weigh-bridge units in the wee hours.

A group of 50 armed Maoists had raided the Kudag mines (in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district) and adjoining Kukud mines (in Jharkhand's Latehar district) between 1 am to 2 am.

Balrampur is located around 400 kms away from here in the northern part of Chhattisgarh.

Maoist had also blown up a weigh-bridge unit at both Kudag and Kukud. No one was reported to be hurt in the incident.
