New Delhi: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has cleared the way for the completion of Dwarka Expressway, also known as Northern Peripheral Road, which was sanctioned nine years ago.

Construction of the 2-kilometre stretch of road within the 18-km long Dwarka Expressway can now re-start after the court order which was stuck in litigation involving acquisition of land.

700 people had challenged the land acquisition in that stretch of road whose homes and lands came in the way of the expressway.

However, after the court order, the affected people will get a rehabilitation package/alternative land and those who already have a home in that area will be given compensation to build new house.

The 18-km long Dwarka Expressway is an eight-lane expressway linking Dwarka-Gurgaon.

Housing prices had jumped significantly on Dwarka Expressway in Gurgaon during last five years but slow pace of construction of highway and litigation issues had become a major hurdle for growth of this corridor.
