New Delhi: In a major setback for the farmers, the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld land acquisition in Noida and Greater Noida between 2006 and 2009.
The apex court has overturned Allahabad High Court order which had scrapped acquisitions.
In what could bring a huge relief for builders, the SC dismissed all petitions from Noida & Greater Noida stating that land acquisition will not be quashed.
Had this judgement not come buildings constructed on land would have had to be demolished.
The Noida and Greater Noida Authority challenged the High Court judgement which had allowed land acquisition of 22,000 hectares with a condition that 64.7 percent additional compensation will be given to the farmers.
The high court, in its judgment, had observed that there were certain illegalities in land acquisition process of Uttar Pradesh government as right of hearing was not given to the farmers.
