Bangalore: IT major Dell Inc`s Chairman and CEO Michael Dell today said tablets and smart phones are not posing a challenge to personal computers.

"I think it is a popular idea to think about that way, but I do not really see going that way," he said when asked at an interaction hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here whether he thought tablets and smart phones are a challenge to personal computers (PCs), Dell termed tablet as "basically an additional device".

He expressed the view that if college students had to choose one of the three devices, they would pick a PC. So, it is PC and tablet and smart phone and not one versus another.

Dell advised the manufacturing sector to harness the power of Internet, adding, they would be left behind if they did not do so.

He also said that social media can be ignored at one`s own peril. Social media gives the highest return on investment when it comes to engaging with customers, potential employees and suppliers, he said, adding, it is a "far more effective marketing and communication" tool than traditional methods.
