New Delhi: Orkut, Google's first networking site that was hugely popular in India and Brazil, is officially coming to an end on Tuesday.

As announced earlier in June by the search engine, Google is shutting down the networking site after failing to take off due to tough competition from other networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

After Tuesday (September 30), users will no longer be able to access Orkut; which also means that today is the last chance for users to login and download all their documents and files as required.

However, Google is reported to have said that the user data would be available to Orkut members until 2016 for which they can use Google's 'Takeout' tool to export their profile data, posts and photos.

Google, in a statement said, "Orkut, the service, may be going away, but all of those incredible communities Orkut users have created will live on. We are preserving an archive of all public communities, which will be available online starting September 30, 2014. If you don't want your posts or name to be included in the community archive, you can remove Orkut permanently from your Google account."

Orkut, which started in 2004, became hugely popular especially in India and Brazil where it was the top networking site until 2008 when Facebook entered these countries and changed the face of networking.

Over the years, most of Orkut users shifted to Facebook bringing a slow dead to the site.
