New Delhi: Microsoft Corporation will be releasing its much awaited new operating system, the Windows 10 across the globe Wednesday and will be available for free upgrade.

However, the free upgrade to the new operating system from Microsoft will be available only to those using Windows 7 version and above and those having an email account with Outlook or Live, which is, again, free.

The Windows 10 will finally hit the market after the name was announced in September 2014 and speculations of the release dates that followed.

Microsoft said the jump in the number from 8 to 10 marks a leap as it looks to unify the way people work on tablets, phones and traditional computers.

Windows 10 will mark the return of the start button that went missing in the Windows 8 while the company has also said it would be much faster, secure and easier.

An early test version of Windows 10 — which blends the traditional look and much-loved start menu with newer features — has been available for download from Microsoft's website for more sometime now.

Windows is still a core part of Microsoft's business and dominates the desktop computing market with 1.5 billion users. But the growth of smartphones and tablets means Windows now runs on only about 14% of computing devices worldwide, according to tech research firm Gartner.
