New Delhi: Kavin Bharti led Hike Messenger has acquired US-based voice calling firm Zip Phone for an undisclosed amount. Hike Messenger is a local start up with more than 35 million users.

Hike’s acquisition is designed to expand its product range in the internet-based communication space. It could mean that Internet-based calls feature isn’t too far away for users of the app. Zip Phone was founded by Anuj Jain in the US.

Viber and Line already offer this feature as part of their services.

Hike has localised Indian features considering the telecom infrastructural requirements such as Hike Offline that lets its users message even when they are offline.
