Google announces invite-only domain-registration service

Google will now be competing with its partner-turned rival companies, the most prominent of which is GoDaddy.

Washington: Google has announced the launch of an invite-only, domain-registration service, marking its foray into the domain registration business.

According to CNN, Google said in a blog post about the venture that businesses will be able to search, find, purchase and transfer the best domain for their business-whether it`s .com, .biz, .org, or any of the wide range of new domains that are being released to the Web.

Google will now be competing with its partner-turned rival companies, the most prominent of which is GoDaddy, the world`s largest domain-management company.

While the latest Google service will allow users to purchase new domain names as well as transfer existing ones, they will also be entitled to free private registration that will keep the site owner`s personal information hidden from the public, the report added.
