Digital India marks beginning of new freedom for people: FM Jaitley

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday termed the Digital India programme as the beginning of a new freedom for the people and added that it was a movement which took services to the people."From an economic point of view this is beginning of a new freedom for the people.

Many changes are taking place in the nation, India wants 8-10 percent growth, wishes to grow faster because we have challenge of eradicating poverty," Jaitley said at the launch of the Digital India week.

"Digital India`s benefits have been experienced by us. Direct Benefit Transfers, Jan Dhan Yojana etc are the examples. This is one movement that takes services to the people," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the `Digital India Week` at the Indira Gandhi indoor stadium in the national capital today with a view to empower the people of the country through the Digital India programme.Digital India aims to transform the country into a digitally empowered knowledge economy.

The vision of Digital India programme also aims at inclusive growth in areas of electronic services, products, manufacturing and job opportunities etc.
