Swedish firm Saab eyes airport safety systems biz in India

Anna Johansson, Sweden's Minister for Infrastructure told PTI, "Saab is keen to develop sophisticated system for airport safety, which I know they are interested in coming into India with."

New Delhi: Swedish defence and civil security firm Saab is looking at airport safety systems as a business opportunity in India.

Anna Johansson, Sweden's Minister for Infrastructure told PTI, "Saab is keen to develop sophisticated system for airport safety, which I know they are interested in coming into India with."

The government has invited applications from local and international firms to operate, manage and develop airports in Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.

Saab serves the global market with products, services and solutions ranging from military defence to civil security.

However, the Swedish minister said that Saab would not be interested in developing an entire airport.
The Scandinavian nation is hopeful that the Indian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will provide ease of doing business to the companies.

"Our companies Volvo, Bombardier, Ericsson, Scania etc. already have a presence in India and more Swedish companies including the small and medium firms are eyeing opportunities in various sectors in India," Johansson said.

Scania Commercial Vehicles India inaugurated a facility in Kolar earlier this week where buses running on bio-gas will be manufactured.

At present, a bus made by the firm runs on bio-diesel in Nagpur.

"The number would be scaled up to 45-50 for the same city in the future," she said.

The Minister added that Swedish companies will also participate in the government's smart cities plan.
At the same time, she also invited Indian firms to do business across sectors in Sweden.

Swedish firms, like many other foreign companies, are hoping for a hassle-free business environment in India.

"Ease of business, standard regulatory framework across the country and getting access to land for developing different manufacturing units are some of the areas Swedish companies want the Indian government to focus," she added.
