President Vladimir Putin on Thursday sought to allay fears over the worst financial crisis of his 15-year-rule, saying the Russian economy would rebound in two years at most.

Moscow: President Vladimir Putin on Thursday sought to allay fears over the worst financial crisis of his 15-year-rule, saying the Russian economy would rebound in two years at most.

Even "under the most unfavourable world conditions, such a situation can last two years," Putin said during his annual end-of-the-year news conference.

"It could improve earlier too," he said.
