Geneva: Underlining the importance of mutual capacity-building and sharing of best practices in the area of Decent Work, India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) Tuesday proposed forming a tripartite working group to promote exchange of views and experience in this sector.

"We propose to create an IBSA tripartite Working Group on Decent Work, to meet at least once a year at the margins of the International Labour Conference with the aim to promote exchange of views and experiences in the area of Decent Work," said the Joint Declaration, signed by Labour Ministers of the three nations.

Decent work sums up the aspirations of people in their working lives.

The declaration was signed on the sidelines of the 15-day long International Labour Conference here. Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge is representing India in the conference.

"We understand that the Decent Work Agenda is a key instrument for attainment of all Millenium Development Goals (MDG) related to eradication of extreme poverty and hunger," the declaration said.

Aiming to promote South-South Cooperation initiative for benefit of developing countries, it also underlined the need to, "foster dialogue between IBSA governments, workers and employers as a way to promote integration amongst India, Brazil and South Africa."

It also highlighted the need for sharing regional experience in each of the three countries and co-ordinate positions and present common understanding at the deliberations of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

"The Ministers exchanged views on the area of cooperation in labour among IBSA states and reiterated their commitment to strengthen respect for International Labour Standards, particularly the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work," a release from Indian Mission in Geneva said.
