Hong Kong shares ended 0.47 percent lower Tuesday, in line with a broad sell-off across Asia and despite gains on Wall Street, but Shanghai added 1.69 percent.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index lost 130.44 points to close at 27,466.72 on turnover of HK$146.49 billion (US$18.90 billion).
But in mainland China the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 81.79 points to 4,910.53 on turnover of 998.7 billion yuan ($163.1 billion).
And the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China`s second exchange, jumped 3.52 percent, or 103.01 points, to 3,029.97, the first time it has closed above 3,000 points.
Turnover was 930.3 billion yuan.
