Toronto: Canada`s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.8 percent for a sixth consecutive month in July, the government statistical agency said Friday.

There were, however, 6,600 new jobs created in the month, somewhat fewer than analysts had forecast.

The slight uptick in employment benefitted mostly men aged 25 to 54 while there was virtually no change in other demographic groups.

Almost 24,000 new part-time jobs were created, while more than 17,000 full-time jobs were shed.

Quebec and Nova Scotia provinces in eastern Canada added jobs while the midwestern provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, as well as Prince Edward Island experienced declines.

More professionals, scientists and technicians were hired in the month. The nation`s public administration also swelled.
