New Delhi: Markets continued the confidence from the previous and hit new record high in opening trade on Monday with the benchmark BSE Sensex gaining 131 points to an all time high of 26,540.51 points while the Nifty hit a new peak of 7,938.
The Sensex was up 130.96 points to hit a new record high while the Nifty continued its gain from the previous week when it hit the 7,900-mark for the first time.
Banks were the top gainer among the indices, up about 0.7 percent with the State Bank of India (SBI) alone gaining as much as 2 percent in morning trade.
In the past two weeks, the Sensex has zoomed 1,090.41 points or 4.30 percent.
Meanwhile, the Indian rupee fell marginally by five paise to 60.52 against the US dollar in morning trade.
