The benchmark BSE Sensex failed to maintain its early gains and dropped by over 100 points in pre-noon trade Thursday on sustained profit-booking.

The 30-share barometer, which had lost 207.91 points in the previous session, fell by 103.70 points, or 0.38 percent, to 26,953.71.

Also, the broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty shed 19.60 points, or 0.24 percent, to 8,074.50.

In the Asian region, Japan's Nikkei was up by 0.60 percent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 0.09 percent in early trade today.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.32 percent in yesterday's trade.
