The benchmark BSE Sensex dipped below 27,000-mark by falling 300 points in afternoon trade Tuesday on profit-booking.
The 30-share barometer, which had gained 116.32 points in the previous session, dropped by 299.66 points, or 1.10 percent, to 26,907.08 after moving in range of 26,844.73 - 27,256.87.
Stocks of realty, capital goods, metals, oil & gas and auto sectors led fall on profit booking.
On similar lines, the broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty shed 92.50 points, or 0.14 percent, to 8,053.80.
Brokers said, selling by foreign funds on the domestic bourses dampened trading sentiments.
Among other Asian markets, Shanghai jumped 0.87 percent, or 19.85 points, to 2,309.72 and Sydney closed up 0.98 percent, or 52.7 points, at 5,415.7 while in late trade Hong Kong was flat.
However, Seoul fell 0.51 percent, or 10.36 points, to 2,028.91.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.62 percent lower in yesterday's trade.
