Continuing its losing streak for the fourth straight day, the rupee fell to its weakest level against the US dollar in more than nine months Thursday due to sustained demand for the greenback from importers.

The dollar's gains against other currencies overseas and a lower trend in the domestic equity market also put pressure on the local unit.

The rupee was trading at 62.27 to the US dollar, moments after falling to 62.33, a level last seen on Feb 20.

The rupee had lost 14 paise to end at over one-week low of 62.02 against the greenback yesterday on sustained dollar demand from importers and fresh capital outflows.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex declined by 113.17 points, or 0.41 percent, to 27,717.93 today.
