Mumbai: The rupee was marginally up by two paise to 61.49 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased selling of the American currency by banks amid a higher opening in the domestic equity market and continued foreign capital inflows.
Besides, economic factors such as retail inflation declining to 5.52 per cent in October and industrial production growing at three-month high of 2.5 per cent in September supported the rupee, forex dealers said.
The rupee had edged higher by four paise to end at 61.51 against the American currency in yesterday's trade on fresh selling of dollars by banks and exporters.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 89.84 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 28,098.74 in early trade today.
