Ramesh Abhishek gets three-month extension as FMC chairman

Senior IAS officer Ramesh Abhishek was Tuesday given a three-month extension as the chairman of the Forward Markets Commission (FMC).

New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Ramesh Abhishek was Tuesday given a three-month extension as the chairman of the Forward Markets Commission (FMC).

This is the fourth time that Abhishek has got an extension after taking over as the chief of the commodity markets regulator in September, 2012.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of the tenure of Ramesh Abhishek as Chairman, FMC for a period of three months beyond April 8, 2015 or till the merger of FMC with SEBI, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has proposed the merger of the FMC with SEBI in this year's budget speech.

Abhishek, a 1982 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre, was given three-month extension each in July and October, last year. His third extension given in January ended on April 7, this year.
