Nifty rebounds 157 points on positive global cues

Global stocks rose smartly, spurred by recovery in Chinese markets amid added stimulus measures news along with market friendly comments from US Fed-vice Chairman that US rate hike may take longer than expected, soothing the domestic players' nerves, resulting across the counter bargain hunting in recently hammered stocks and hectic short-covering affirming the index rise.

Today's session saw the Nifty witnessing gap-up opening and gradually rallying to end green.

Elsewhere, Asian stock ended higher as China market rose sharply by 5.34 percent, while European stocks were also trading higher.

Sector-wise, Realty rallied by 4.15 percent, followed by Financials (3.22 percent), Pharma (2.95 percent), Metals (2.77 percent), PSU Bank (2.66 percent), Commodities (2.45 percent), Media (2.16 percent), Energy (2.11 percent), FMCG (2.08 percent), Bank Nifty (1.75 percent), Infra (1.73 percent) and Auto (0.89 percent).

While, the second-line shares of midcap and smallcap gained 3.12 percent and 3.04 percent, respectively.

The broader 50-share Nifty opened gap-up at 7,921.60 and traded between a high of 7,963.60 and a low of 7,862.30 before closing at 7,948.95, showing a sharp gain of 157.10 points, or 2.02 percent, over its last close.

Stock-wise, major gainers were HDFC (8.30 percent), Cairn (7.32 percent), VEDL (6.55 percent), Bank of Baroda (5.98 percent), Ambuja Cement (5.90 percent), Tata Steel (4.98 percent), Lupin (4.94 percent) and Axis Bank (2.75 percent).

Turnover in the cash segment jumped to Rs 26,116.85 crore as compared to Rs 20,032.30 crore yesterday.

A total of 11,758.98 lakh shares changed hands in 9,568,446 trades and the total market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 9,495,232 crore.
