Nifty continues to decline for 3rd day; ends 5 points down

The CNX Nifty continued to decline for the 3rd day on Wednesday, slipping by another 4.75 points, to close at 8,334.60 on selling pressure following disappointing results by Tata Motors & Tech Mahindra.

Mumbai: The CNX Nifty continued to decline for the 3rd day on Wednesday, slipping by another 4.75 points, to close at 8,334.60 on selling pressure following disappointing results by Tata Motors & Tech Mahindra.

The 50-share Nifty resumed lower at 8,302.75 and hovered in a range of 8,342.85 and 8,277.95 before concluding at 8,334.60, showing a marginal loss of 4.75 points, or 0.06 percent.

The CNX Auto index also fell by 2.08 percent and IT by 1.85 percent while Bank Nifty rose by 1.14 percent.

Major CNX Nifty losers were Tata Chemicals (14.24 percent), Tata Motors (5.19 percent), M&M (3.19 percent), Sun Pharma (1.94 percent) and Infosys (1.93 percent).

However, BHEL rose by 3.48 percent, ONGC (2.95 percent), Axis Bank (2.40 percent), IDEA (2.35 percent) and NMDC (2.28 percent).

Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 17,897.25 crore from Rs 14,363.15 crore yesterday.

A total of 6,942.22 lakh shares changed hands in 72,60,365 trades and the total market capitalisation of the NSE stood at Rs 99,35,713 crore.
