Market recovers from early losses, Sensex regains 29K level

The benchmark BSE Sensex pared its earlier losses and quoted higher by over 100 points in late morning trade Thursday, on short-covering.

New Delhi: The benchmark BSE Sensex pared its earlier losses and quoted higher by over 100 points in late morning trade Thursday, on short-covering.

The 30-share index, which has lost 798.66 points in the previous four sessions, gained further by 136.34 points, or 0.47 percent, to 29,019.45 after moving in range of a high of 29,054.26 and a low of 28, 824.88.

The top gainers on the BSE were HDFC (+2.39 percent), Axis Bank (+2.21 percent), HDFC Bank (+1.66 percent), Wipro (+1.34 percent) and SBI (+1.13 percent)

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty gained by 36.25 points, or 0.42 percent, to 8,759.95.

Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up by 1.49 percent, while Japan's Nikkei index shed 0.83 percent in early trade.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.04 percent higher in yesterday's trade.
