Govt approves to revive 23 ailing cooperative banks

New Delhi: The government on Wednesday approved a move to revive 23 ailing cooperative banks in four states that would require a capital infusion of about Rs 2,375 crore.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad informed that the government would revive 23 unlicenced district central cooperative banks (DCCBs) in four States.

As per a statement released by the cabinet, 16 of the banks are located in Uttar Pradesh, three each in Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra and one in West Bengal.

Under the Scheme, the total capital infusion required for revival of the 23 DCCBs would be Rs.2,375.42 crore, of which the commitment from the central government would be Rs.673.29 crore, from state governments Rs.1,464.59 crore and from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Rs.237.54 crore.
