Banks should take proactive steps to fund projects: FM Jaitley

Jaitley said that he discussed ways to reduce stress on the asset front with PSU banks. He also suggested that banks take proactive steps to fund the projects.

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday met heads of public sector banks to review their financial performance and Jan Dhan Yojana, among others.

Jaitley said that he discussed ways to reduce stress on the asset front with PSU banks. He also suggested that banks take proactive steps to fund the projects.

“I also discussed state of market with PSU banks,” Jaitley added.

The meeting, chaired by Arun Jaitley, was also attended by heads of public sector financial institutions like Nabard and NHB.

The main agenda of the meeting was discussing financial performance at the end of the second quarter, sources said.

The progress of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) was another important issue that was discussed.

The issue of asset quality and recovery of bad loans , credit to farm sector, MSME, housing and education loans were among the important topics which were discussed.
