Bandhan Bank will focus on MSMEs: FM Jaitley

The Kolkata-based BFS had received a nod from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to start commercial banking operations last year.

New Delhi: Finance Mininister Arun Jaitley on Sunday inaugurated Bandhan Financial Services (BFS) in Kolkata. “A great institute is being born in West Bengal,” Jaitley said.

The Kolkata-based BFS had received a nod from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to start commercial banking operations last year.

“Need more economic activity in the eastern states of the country,” Jaitley said. “Political differences will not come in the way of development of West Bengal.”

The finance minister also said that large corporates responsible for NPA problem and Bandhan Bank will focus on MSMEs.

The inaugural marks commencement of banking services at 500 BFS branches across the country. The bank has also set up 250 ATMs in urban areas

Bandhan currently has a staff strength of more than 16,000, of which 3,000 are new recruits for the bank and 400 taken laterally from other banks.
