New Delhi: Conveying his best wishes to members of Rajya Sabha who are retiring on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it would have been good for the states had the Goods and services Tax (GST) Bill been passed during their tenure.

"I wish the GST would have been passed during your tenure in Rajya Sabha. This GST will help states like UP and Bihar," says Mr. Modi to retiring members during his farewell speech.

“You didn’t get the chance. But I’m sure all those of you who’ll come back will get this opportunity,”Modi further stated.

The upper house of Parliament will see as many as 53 members retire on Friday.

The number is one of the highest in recent memory.

Of the 53 Rajya Sabha MPs retiring today, 16 are from the main opposition Congress - the party has a total of 65 members in the upper house.
