Kolkata: West Bengal Textiles and Small Scale Industry Minister Manas Bhunia Saturday said a committee would soon be formed for framing of policy for the states textiles sector.
"We will soon announce a new panel to look after the textiles sector in the state and also to form a policy which was never there before," Bhuniya said during an interaction at the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce here.
He added that the ministry would also come out with a policy paper to develop the powerloom and handloom sector in the state.
Bhuniya urged the industry to take garment and hosiery industry seriously as the sector has a tremendous potential.
He further stated that he would take up the issue of credit flow to the micro, small and medium sector in the state with the banks and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
With land being a very sensitive issue in West Bengal, setting up large industries would be a problem because of fragmented holdings. Small and medium sectors could fill in the gap, he said.
