New Delhi: With the wholesale price index inflation falling to a 5-year low in September, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said the government has been able to bring food inflation under control.

'We have been able to bring food inflation under control', Jaitley said of the food prices dipping to a 5-year low.

With the price of food softening, the wholesale price inflation was down to near five year low of 2.38 percent for the month of September.

The WPI inflation stood at 3.74 percent in August and 7.05 percent in September 2013.

Jaitley also said the government was committed to reforms in food markets for improving supply
and keeping inflation low.

We are confident that soon we will be achieving low and stable inflation, he said.

As per data released by the government today, the food inflation fell to a nearly 33-month low of 3.52 percent. The continuing decline in food inflation comes as a big relief to the common man as well as the policy planners in the government.

The sharp drop in WPI inflation, which fell for the fourth month in a row, comes just at the back of retail inflation declining to a record low of 6.46 percent in September.
