Trade deficit dips to 10-month low in December

India's trade deficit dipped by 44 percent to 10-month low of USD 9.43 billion in December last year.

New Delhi: India's trade deficit dipped by 44 percent to 10-month low of USD 9.43 billion in December last year.

Exports during December last year were valued at USD 25.39 billion which was 3.77 percent lower in dollar terms (2.46 percent lower in rupee terms) than the level of USD 26.39 billion during December, 2013.

Cumulative value of exports for the period April-December 2014-15 was USD 241.15 billion as against USD 231.82 billion, registering a growth of 4.02 percent in dollar terms and growth of 5.02 percent in rupee terms over the same period last year.

Imports during December, 2014 were valued at USD 34.83 billion which was 4.78 percent lower in dollar terms and 3.48 percent lower in rupee terms over the level of imports valued at USD 36.58 billion in December, 2013.

Cumulative value of imports for the period April-December 2014-15 was USD 351.20 billion as against USD 338.90 billion, registering a growth of 3.63 percent in dollar terms and growth of 5.22 percent in rupee terms over the same period last year.

The trade deficit for April-December, 2014-15 was estimated at USD 110.05 billion which was higher than the deficit of USD 107.07 billion during April-December, 2013-14.
