New Delhi: On the back of easing food prices, the retail inflation for the month of April cooled down further to a 4-month low of 4.78 percent as against 5.17 percent in the month of March.

Retail inflation as measured by Consumer Price Index was 5.17 percent in March, 5.37 percent in February, and 5.19 percent in January.

Despite unseasonal rains in the past months, this low inflation rate will renew industry clamour for further cut in RBI policy rate to boost growth.

After cutting rates twice this year, in its first bi-monthly monetary policy announcement in the new fiscal, the Reserve Bank had kept the key policy rate unchanged on fears of unseasonal rains impacting food prices.
