New Delhi: Retail inflation for industrial workers for August remained almost flat at 4.35 percent in August compared with 4.37 percent in July this year.

"The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW (Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers) stood at 4.35 percent in August compared with 4.37 percent for the previous month and 6.75 percent in the corresponding month of the previous year," a Labour Ministry statement said.

According to the release, the all India CPI-IW increased by one point to 264 points in the month under review. It rose 0.38 percent between July and August compared with a rise of 0.40 percent a year ago.

The maximum upward pressure to the index came from the food group, which contributed 1.57 percentage points to the total change.

Arhar dal, masur dal, groundnut oil, mustard oil, beef, milk, onion, garlic, brinjal, peas, parval, coconut, tea, electricity and barber charges are responsible for the uptick.

However, the increase was limited by rice, wheat, fish fresh, chicken, French beans, potato, tomato, cooking gas and petrol, putting downward pressure on the index.
