New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha on Friday passed the Coal Bill which will replace the Ordinance promulgated in December last year.
The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill 2015 provides for allocation of coal mines and vesting of the right, title and interest in and over the land and mine infrastructure together with mining leases to successful bidders and allots through a transparent bidding process.
Congress and Left opposed the introduction of the bill in the Upper House while JDU and RJD staged a walkout.
BSP, SP, NCP and other parties supported the Bill.
