Petrol prices slashed Rs 1.09 per litre; diesel prices up 50 paise per litre

The government on Thursday slashed petrol prices by Rs 1.09 per litre, while diesel prices have been hiked by 50 paise. The new rates are effective midnight i.e August 1.

New Delhi: The government on Thursday slashed petrol prices by Rs 1.09 per litre, while diesel prices have been hiked by 50 paise. The new rates are effective midnight i.e August 1.

This is the first drop in petrol prices since April. Petrol prices were last slashed on April 15, by 70 paise per litre.

Although, the price of branded or premium petrol was cut by over Rs 5 per litre on July 10. Branded petrol, which contains special performance enhancing additives, attracted higher duties than normal petrol.

The last revision in fuel prices were undertaken on June 30 when petrol prices were hiked by Rs 1.69 per litre and diesel by 50 paise per litre.
