Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government today announced monthly pension and housing grants for registered construction workers and said all expenses would be borne by the state.

"Construction workers having registration for a minimum period of five years will be eligible to get a monthly pension of Rs 500 on attaining the age of 60 years," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced in the state Assembly.

They would also be eligible to get Rs 1 lakh as housing grant under the Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana, which would be launched by the government.

This apart, the government also decided to enhance the amount of assistance for purchase of working tools by them from Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000, he said.

For construction workers who have migrated out of the state, the government has decided that though they are not registered under Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, they would be given Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia in case of accidental death during the course of employment.

Such workers would get assistance up to Rs 50,000 to meet treatment cost in case of grievous work related injuries outside the state, Patnaik said.

"All the expenditure will be met by the Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board," he said adding that the state government was committed to the welfare of the weaker and marginalised sections.
