Ahmedabad: Evaluating one-year performance of Narendra Modi government, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said that confidence in the economy has come back after the NDA government stormed into power one year back.

Addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad, the FM said, “ (in the last one year) Decisions have been taken in a direction which will augment growth and promote development”.

Taking potshots at the UPA regime, the FM said, “If you want to see crony capitalism then see the UPA model, and if you want to see honest and transparent governance then see the NDA model.”

The FM further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has restored the credibility of the country, adding that his prompt decision-making has helped India come out of policy logjam.

The FM said that schemes like the PM Jan Dhan Yojna, LPG subsidy and Mudra Bank have been major achievements of the government which have unleashed new confidence among the people of the country.

Jaitley added that Prime Minister's mega social security schemes – Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (accident insurance), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana (life insurance) and Atal Pension Yojana would provide social security to the poor. “Only 20 percent Indians were covered under insurance scheme. We want to raise the figure further,” Jaitley added.
