New Delhi: Implementation of the National Food Security Act, which was scheduled to be done from July 05 this year, may be further delayed by a year.
The Food Security Act, passed by Parliament last year, aims at providing highly-subsidised food grains to 800 million poor people in addition to continuation of the support price for the farmers.
The Government is likely to bring an ordinance for bringing changes in the National Food Security Act, owing to problems in distribution of food grains at state level.
A few states are running three schemes at present and they don't want to discontinue those schemes.
Consumer Affair Minister Ram Vilas Paswan briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on National Food Security issue during the meeting at 7 RCR today.
The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
Modi held discussions with top NDA ministers to identify measures that are needed to be taken to contain spiralling inflation and ensuring food security.
