New Delhi: As with the initiatives in the Indian railway, ordering food online during long distance bus journeys is to become a reality soon. And the service could happen as soon as October.

TravelKhana, online food ordering service for train passengers, is planning to launch the same service for bus passengers who are travelling long distance journeys.

"We are in talks with various bus operators to provide meals for passengers who would either be able to call us or pre book a meal. Customers would be able to book through our platform, call centre or bus ticketing portals to order meals," Pushpinder Singh, CEO TravelKhana, was quoted as saying by the Economic Times.

The service, which is expected to start within the next three months, provides about 3,000 meals per days to train passengers at various stations.

"We will start the service on buses plying between major metros," said Singh.

Mr Singh also said his company was also in talks with IRCTC to provide pre-booked meals to rail passengers.

"However, no such formal arrangement is in place as yet," he said.

TravelKhana was founded in 2012 as an experiment on Ashram Express connecting Delhi and Ahmedabad and currently serves customers in over 6,000 trains across 500 cities in India on daily basis.
